Race Review : The Giant Race

My last long run before Berlin Marathon race week was the San Francisco Giant Race 10K. As much as I wanted to run the Half Marathon (the course looked epic), my coach would not approve...and after months of training, I didn't want to run Berlin with tired legs. The Giant Race was an incredible way to end my marathon training cycle and the 3+ minute PR gave me the confidence boost I needed going into marathon race week!

On the 40 minute drive to the race I had time to mentally prepare for the 6.2 miles ahead of me. I have been training without music (who am I?!) and I have to say it's a total game changer - I am so much more mindful and focused without music, which I now see as a distraction. I prepurchased parking (per the race site suggestion), so parking was a cinch. As I got out of the car the cool air hit me - running in a singlet and shorts was a bit of a shock to this Miami girl (it was in the 50's), so I briskly walked to the start area outside the AT&T ballpark. The corrals were organized and full of energy!

The route was beautiful with perfect running weather - we ran along the water the entire time and finished inside the AT&T ballpark on the field! I loved this race and would definitely do it again should work bring me back to the Bay area the same time next year! Awesome running community, well organized, great support on the course and loved the medal and race swag!

10K PR! I just claimed my Athlinks results!

How cute is the finisher medal and the race swag?!
